I’m Outta Here

Words can’t express how excited I get my when parents pull my crate out into the kitchen to indicate that we’re about to embark on some overnight adventure. First I dance around it. Then I run laps around the house to make sure that all of my favorite toys have been packed. And finally I lay down in my crate as if to say “let’s get this show on the road people.”

  1. Does Burger give lessons on “How to Love Your Crate”? My doxie Calvin will have none of that darned crate no matter what methods I tried.

Burger looks entirely too cute in that thing, cute overload!

    • Here’s my lesson in how to love your crate:

Step 1: Get treats when you go into your crate for the first few weeks of using it.
      Step 2: Love your crate.

At least that’s what worked for me.

  2. Where you off to, cutie?!

    • I was going to Northern Virginia for the weekend to visit my Grammy (she loves to spoil her Granddog).

  3. It is so encouraging to see feisty Chi’s like myself out there on the web making a mark on the world! You are inspiring, and kinda cute too. Gotta girlfriend?!

    • I’m a player. I have 500 girlfriends. But there’s always room for one more…

  4. My sister is pregnant and has two Chihuahuas and she is very concerned about bringing the new baby home and how the dogs will react. Do you have any tricks you can share on how to make things go smoother? Their names are Taco and Penny.

    • Bring home a blanket so the pups can sniff it (mom and dad did that while they were still in the hospital so I could get used to the scent for a few days) and then on the day she brings home the baby tell her to bring a treat for the pooches inside with her. They’ll associate the new baby with good things just like I do (because I got a yummy treat and a new toy when Clara came home). Now we’re besties.

  5. Is that a feather pillow in Burg’s crate? How luxe!

Hamlet exhibits similar excited behavior when we pull out the canvas tote bag that we use to transport all of his stuff to his Grammy’s house. As soon as the bag’s on the floor, he sticks his whole face in it. I imagine he’s saying things like, “What’s in here? Why haven’t you packed my food yet? Where are my toys? Why does it smell like dog in here?”

    • Hahahahaah, I do that too. It’s so exciting!
