My Buddy & Me

Does anyone remember the commercial that goes “my buddy, my buddy, my buddy, my buddy- wherever I go, he goes” and then it goes on about some “kid sister” doll too at the end? It’s waaaay before my time but my mom and dad sing it, so it’s no surprise that it was in my head when I was cuddling up to my newest play-thing. Until I ripped all of his stuffing out a few hours later. Ah friendship. So bittersweet…

I totally remember that commercial! My husband and I sing it all the time! Its the reason we call eachother “buddy”. :-)

i don’t have a buddy but i have a blanket that i drag with me all over the house!

I actually saw two people dressed up as “My Buddy” and “Kid Sister” for Halloween last year!

Ha. Love it. I use to love the Kid Sister.
“Kid Sister, Kid Sister, Kid Sister and Me.”

So cute. Did your buddy go to the infirmary? My parents have an infirmary of the hundreds of ‘buddies’ I demolish, and every couple months mom sews one or two up and it’s like I have a brand new toy again! It’s great!

My parents just take the stuffing out and I get to keep playing with them. I still have my buddy but he’s all flat and sad looking. Still entertains me to no end, though!

My bestest buddy is the first (and last) plush toy Mom bought for me. He’s called Lamby-Doodle and I ripped open his belly to get the squeaker and stuffing out in just a few short minutes. He doesn’t look so great anymore (especially after his head recently came off!), but I still love, love, LOVE him!

I saw the blog title and immediately started humming “My buddy, my buddy”—-I totally remember the ad, too. The little boy with My Buddy was riding a red Hot Wheels and the little girl had blonde briads like Kid Sister did…wow, clearly that made an impression.

Our puppy, Chloe, had a pink one of those for Valentine’s Day… Sadly, it has passed on since she chose to eat its face :( Y’all would get along great!

My, your ears are pink! I used to have kitties with pink ears just like yours!

Well THAT song will be in my head for the rest of the day.

Burger, your parents are asking for Burning Question suggestions, but my burning question is more dog related than house related, so maybe you could do one here.

I would love to hear thoughts on the one dog vs. two debate. I am contemplating getting my mini-beagle Charlie a live buddy/dog kid sister.

I say the more the merrier. As long as there’s enough love (and treats!) to go around. And if your first dog is good with other pooches (me, not so much) then I say go for it!

I remember that commercial! Such cute pictures. Burger is such a ham. :) Ok, that was a very bad pun!

Thanks for getting that song stuck in my head. It is going to take another 15 years to get it out again.

My little daughter loves looking at your blog, Burger. She says, “Oh, Burger! Cool!”

Hey Sarah – Good question! I got a kid sister for my pooch about 8 months ago, hoping to keep him active and not lonely during the day. It turns out, since my “old” dog (he’s 5) sleeps the whole day, he could care less if he has company. But they do keep each other active (lil sister is a very zippy 3) and provide endless love and entertainment for me. There is definitely sibling rivalry, and it is more work, but I think it was a good decision! And saving another doggy life is never a bad thing. Best of luck to you and Charlie!

haha! I am a chihuahua too, Burger, and I weigh 10 lbs! (a little chunky but mostly big boned.) Did you know we both would technically be disqualified from being show dogs? You must be 6 lbs or under! Rude! Anyway, I am not good with other dogs either. But my parents went and got a rat terrier puppy, whom I’ve learned to tolerate, and then they HAD A BABY!!!!!!!!!! He is now almost 2!!! ARGH!!!!

Nice to meet you Lola. We should start our own exclusive dog show where chihuahuas must be OVER 6 pounds to enter. That’ll teach those wackos to exclude beauties like us. Oh well, their loss.

My humans sing the same song to me…cause my name is Buddy….I can hear them now “My Buddy and me like to climb up a tree….my Buddy and meeee!”
