Treats: Enviro-Pouches For Pooches
***This treat isn’t taking entries anymore. Sorry people.***
I hear you people-y types like free things – so here goes nothing (though I highly recommend being a dog, we don’t pay for anything).
Bags can be bad, like when we are shoved in them. Bags can also be good, like when you clean up after us with them. But when Rocco’s mom over at Envirosax told us about their promotion with the ASPCA this month, I realized that bags can be really good.
Not just because they’re reusable, but because Envirosax is donating $1 for every pouch sold in November to the ASPCA to help pets who aren’t as lucky and Rocco and me.
So Rocco and his momma wanted to spread the word by letting me give a free pouch (that’s 5 whole bags!) to THREE different animal lovers out there, kinda like my parents did a few months ago on their blog. And since they’ve already got this giveaway thing down, I recruited them to help me with this next part…
- THE TREAT: A 5-bag pouch of Envirosax, any design from their graphic series (check them out, they’re super cool)
- TO ENTER: Leave me a comment on this post saying “TREAT ME” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: …I’d love to hear any good stories you have about rescuing your pet or otherwise doing something nice for us animals out there. Every little bit helps, so here’s your chance to brag.
- GIVEAWAY ENDS: Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: Three lucky humans (or dogs who like to grocery shop)
- ELIGIBILITY: Pouches can be shipped to the US and Canada
- DETAILS SCHMETAILS: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!
I follow the same giveaway policies as my parents, so get more info on their Giveaway FAQs page. Images courtesy of Envirosax.

Treat Me!
I wanted a dog to come with me on long walks and runs and was lucky enough to find Homer, a Lab mix, at the animal shelter. Blue is our cat that was found with the rest of her litter behind the dumpster at my work. And Bonzo is our chihuahua, had to be flown out on a two hour airplane flight when my boyfriends’s mom could no longer look after him. I love my fur-babies! Oh ya, and we have a lizard that was found mixed in with a box of flowers that was put on a refrigerated truck and driver to Ontario from Florida, and survived!
Treat Me!
We have never rescued a dog but we have a soon to be 7 year old Maltese who is spoooooiled rotten! She is sitting in my lap as I type this. Cute thing about her…she refuses…REFUSES to jump on anything. She will whine and circle the coffee table trying to get your attention so you will put her up on the couch. She will eat pretty much anything and I think hard boiled eggs are her favorite. 1 crack and she is flying into the kitchen praying for a piece to fall on the floor. She usually gets more than a piece though! See spoiled!! :)
Treat ME!
My first rescue (not including our family dog) was Buckley. Buckley was in a no kill shelter for about 10 years. Buckley was old though they only told me he was 12 years old when I got him I knew he was older. I had Buckley for a wonderful 1.5years and it was wonderful to have him in my life and I miss him very much!
TREAT ME!
I adopted both of my dogs… one from the Md SPCA and one from another shelter. I knew as soon as I saw each of them that they were meant to live with us! They are my babies and get the best of everything… as they deserve!
TREAT ME! My Lemmy, my kitty….About a year ago I went to friend’s to visit. Their teen had chased a kitten into their shed with a cinder block and told me she was going to kill it!! (Can you believe it?!) I said not while I am here…I was able to catch this Adorable “kitteh” a 4- 5 week old baby. He was so scared when he came home with me he spent nearly a week hiding under the powder room sink!! Needless to say, he has become my favorite kitty ever!
TREAT ME!
Mom and dad picked me (Keno aka Moose) out of 5 puppies because I was the only one that came up to them and when they looked into my brown puppy eyes they couldn’t resist. If they only knew how big I’d grow…
Well, Mom and Dad picked me (Molly) even though I had a fungus on my face and everyone kept returning me. I don’t stop licking. :)
Treat me!
Growing up, my parents would always adopt animals from the shelter. We would also have random cats show up and join our family. People would call our house a zoo because we had so many kids and pets. My parents would also nurse hurt birds. I remember people bringing them hurt animals to nurse back to health. I remember them once taking a hurt opossum to someone who cared for them. (Seriously…eww)

I’ve got 2 babies. One Shiba Inu named Foxey and also an Ori Pei named Brutus. I love them both.
TREAT ME! Our family dog & cat when I was born were both strays. My dad is a Vet and they both (seperately) hanging around his animal hospital, so he took them home!
TREAT ME! My 1st dog was a purebreed, but still a rescue. My husband is a Vet and delivered a litter of puppies on our 1st anniversary. One of the puppies was born with the wrong color nose, so the breeder asked for it to be put down. My hubby brought it home to me instead. We named him Paper in honor of our 1st anniversary, but turns out he had a vengeance against TP so it was very appropriate!
Treat me! Last day of 3rd grade my mom took me to the SPCA to see the dogs and cats for adoption and visit the petting zoo. It wasn’t part of the plan, but we adopted my kitten that day!!
“TREAT ME”
My dog Daisy was rescued from a house where she had been left outside chained up and neglected. The animal shelter where she ended up was in a small town in California and unfortunately nobody there wanted to adopt her since she was part pitbull. A lady in my small town in Vernon, BC, Canada decided to take all of the dogs who were about to be euthanized and load them into a truck and travel all the way to British Columbia, Canada. From there she found a nice foster home in Kelowna, BC with two other pitbulls to play with. I saw her picture and story online at the Between Friends Animal rescue website, and fell in love immediately! She was the perfect Brindle Pitbull I had been looking for! My kids and I named her Daisy ( her third name) and have loved her ever since,
Of course we couldn’t just have one puppy, so a month later she got a brother, who has tortured her ever since. He is named Bumble and he is a cross between a Boston Terrier, a Japanese Chin and a Pug.
Treat me!!
I adopted my cat Cuddles a few years ago on accident. Well, I mean I didn’t go to the pound to get a cat, in fact I went with my stepmom who just “wanted to look” at the dogs because our dog Obie had passed away a few months before. So she was looking at the dogs and I checked out the cats. I turned my back to go and this cat was standing on its head with its paws sticking through the cage bars and absolutely attacking my jacket! My stepmom came in and we both just fell in love with the guy. Much to my dad’s chagrin, we came home with a cat, and he’s been a joy ever since!
TREAT ME
Although my IG, Kalli, is not adopted…I do everything I can for her. She’s made my world happier by just being my snuggler and bed warmer. Once my husband and I sell our home and get a bigger place, we hope to adopt a 2nd pet for Kalli to play with!
Treat me! We are actively looking for a sister (or maybe a brother) for our little cocker spaniel Bailey. Right now he’s our only child and we think he’s getting lonely! We constantly check the classifieds in our little local paper for a dog that might need a new home.
Treat Me!
My husband and I resuced Ivy and Otis, our precious and loved Boston Terriers. Ivy came first (found her on Petfinder.com) — she was recovering from a bad case of mange and was very skinny. Otis came a year later via a vet who rescued several animals from a farm in which the poor things were being neglected. Otis was skittish and so skinny his ribs and hip bones were sticking out. Now they are our children and our life. We all support ASPCA!
Treat me!
Lucy is our shelter baby. She now enjoys the life of luxury snoozing on a pillow-top mattress every day! We think she got pretty lucky. We are HUGE dog lovers, and would have WAY more than our 2 if we could.
treat me! all the animals our family has had have been rescues. 4 dogs from shelters/families that couldn’t take care of them and a neighborhood stray cat that wandered (aka RAN) into our house one night.
TREAT ME!
Our first dog, Rosie, was a shelter rescue dog. She was the love of our lives for the 10 years we were lucky enough to have her with us. (She passed away in 2008.) We are now graced with the crazy that is a year old yellow lab, Ozzy, and one day when he’s more mature (ha! I think other lab parents will get the humor in that.) we plan to adopt a brother or sister for him.
TREAT ME!
2 years ago, my boyfriend and I went to the local humane society to visit the animals. We had no intention of adopting one for ourselves. We visited all of the little dogs in the front and then went to the back where all of the big dogs were. In the middle of all of the big, loud dogs was this little yellow ball of fluff named Fergie. We couldn’t figure out why she was in the back with all of the big guys. We took her out for a walk and fell head over heels in love with her. We found out that she had been surrendered by her owner a few weeks prior, and that was 15 years old. We debated about getting her, because we didn’t want to set ourselves up for heartbreak with at 15 year old dog. A few days later, we went back and adopted her. We figured we could make the remainder of her life wonderful. We had her and loved her for almost a year, and then she died of cancer. It was extremely sad, but we knew that we had given her the best year of her life. We have since gone back and adopted another little fluffy that we will hopefully have for much longer, but we will always love our little Fergie.
TREAT ME! Our Ollie came from the Humane Society when he was just a little puppy. Rescuing is the way to go!!

I have been spoiling my chihuahua for the past 5 years and my family has been known to take in every stray that comes our way
Treat Me!!
I used to volunteer at an animal shelter as a cat cuddler. It was bittersweet to see the kitties go because they were so cute, but I knew they were going to good homes!
Treat Me!
I ‘rescued’ my border collie cross from a little farm in Snowville Utah while on a roadtrip. She was destined to a 3 foot chain in the front yard, herding cattle and fending off cougars. Now, 13 years old, she lives in the lap of luxury, having spent 6 years just me and her in a wee cabin in the woods on an island off the Westcoast of Canada, chasing deer and squirrels and otters.
Treat Me!!
Awesome give-a-way! I am sadly allergic to furry animals but my fiance (before we lived together) adopted 2 cats from the MSPCA. The first one I picked out and she was the so shy. Everyone liked the really friendly cats but she just sat in a corner unnoticed. She has really come out of her shell and while doesn’t like to be held, will sit in your lap if you are very still. We think she was lonely so went back and got a very social, loveable boy cat.
TREAT ME!
I got Zeke for the Tracy Animal Rescue in March. He’s an adorable German Short-hair Pointer. I just found out that he was going to be put down, but Brandon, a new foster parent, arrived at the meeting and took him home. Brandon had Zeke a month before we found him at Petfinder.com. I saw Zeke’s picture and fell in love. He has been with us 6 months and is a part of the family. He cuddles with My Hubby & I on the couch while we watch movies. It’s a cute picture :) We love Zeke and are so happy to have him in our family.
TREAT ME!
We’ve been involved in animal rescue for years now. Both of our cats are rescues and our one pug Molly is also a rescue. She was badly abused, burned with cigarettes and basically had no fur when we got her. She has come a long, long way and still has a ways to go. Because of her abuse, she has some really nervous habits, like licking the air. And smoke scares her big time!
We also volunteer for various animal rescue organizations. There are so many abandoned animals out there, it just breaks your heart.
Treat me!
We adopted our lab mix Eli (a.k.a Leelie, the little guy, Peewee, Leelee face) through a local organization that brings dogs from high-kill shelters in TN to New England. He loves his new home in Maine!
Treat Me!
My pup Daisy came from Triangle Beagle Rescue in NC. She was a puppy when I got her, just weaned from her mother- Lotta. She is almost 4, and likes nothing more than to sleep on the couch with me and my husband.
“TREAT ME”… our family adopted Kim-Chi, a shepherd mix from the North Shore Animal Shelter when she was 8 weeks old. 6 years later, she’s still melting our hearts.
TREAT ME! We rescued our adorable pit bull pup 2 years ago. We found him at a home where he and his 8 brothers and sisters lived in a box. He had cuts and scratches all over his body, feces, fleas, malnourished, and only 4 months old! He was in pitiful shape. He loves to lick (the vet said it was because he was away from his mom at an early age) and cuddle. We are so glad he is a part of our lives. It breaks my heart to see all of these abandon, mistreated animals :(
TREAT ME!
We rescued a kitten from my grandfather’s neighbor’s tree– and named him after my grandpa in an effort to win over my grumpy grandpa’s heart. Grandpa was not too amused–needless to say– TomCat lived with my family for 10 years.
TREAT ME!
We adopted my sweet little man Jordan from Dachshund Rescue of North America 2.5 years ago. When we got him he was painfully thin and so timid he could barely stand to be around people. He’s still a reserved fellow, but he’s much more comfortable around people now, and he’s my little shadow. Whenever I sit down somewhere, he shows up and curls up next to me within five minutes.
I give money to DRNA frequently to help out with some of the dachshunds who haven’t found forever homes yet. I can’t take them all in, now matter how much I’d like to, but I can help the group make their lives better.
TREAT ME!
My family adopted our dogs from a local rescue. One was a mini dachshund, and the other is a dachshund mix. The mini was raised with German Shepards and had to fight for her food. She was really aggressive at first, but became an amazing and crazy little dog after getting lots of love. The mix was born with only one eye and was heavily abused. She’s still very timid and anxious to this day (and is now fully blind), but she’s a total sweetheart and makes everybody love her.
I can’t wait be out of college and be able to rescue a dog as well. I’m hoping to adopt from the French Bulldog Rescue Network. :)
TREAT ME!
Both of my cats were “adopted”. Buttercup was found in the woods and someone turned her over to a local vet’s office, where she sat in a crate for over a month. When her big sister Petunia (terrier mix puppy) was in for a check up we fell in love with her, and took her home. She was found with a leg that had once been broken and healed improperly, and mostly only walks on 3 legs, so maybe that’s why no one wanted her; but she’s the sweetest thing ever, and her and Petunia get along great. Sassafras, the other cat, was found under a deck while we were vacationing. She was very skinny, had no collar, and was declawed. We took her to the local humane society, where they checked her for a microchip, and since she had none, and was sweet as sugar, we couldn’t resist bringing her home with us as well (after filing a report in case her rightful owners came to claim her). 6 months later and she up to a healthy weight and adjusting to life with a family.
Treat me!
All four of our four-legged family members were rescued and/or adopted:
- Luna, our 3 1/2 year old white breed-unknown cat, was adopted from a vet student who had her dropped at his door at just a few weeks old. I took her home in July 2007 when she was 12 weeks old. She kept me company in a lonely apartment during my last year of college before moving in with my then-fiance/now-husband.
- Vinny, our 3 1/2 year old black lab mix, was found on the side of the road a few years back with one ear nearly ripped off and infected. A vet tech found him and the vet managed to reattach his ear (and now you can barely tell). His full name is Vincent van Gogh (Get it? The ear?), and we adopted him in June 2008 from the vet tech who fostered him, just weeks after moving into our first home AND getting married.
- Ally, our 10 month old collie mix, was found by my husband’s coworker behind their downtown office building. She was only a few weeks old, all alone, and covered with fleas and scabies. She made a full recovery at the coworker’s house, and we adopted her in March 2009 at 10-12 weeks old.
- I finally, my husband found Rusty, our orange tabby kitten, hiding on top of my car tire in our carport in June 2009. I couldn’t resist his kitten-y charms and have had him ever since. He was only 6 weeks old at the time, with no mother-cat or siblings in sight. After repeated vet visits for viruses and infections, he’s now a healthy 6 month old.
Can you tell we’re animal people? They only cost us a couple hundred dollars a month… So worth it. :)
Treat Me!
I inherited my fabulous “daughter” through marriage to her father. Brittany is a beautiful sheppard mix that was adopted through a Petsmart in Richmond, VA!

“TREAT ME”
I’m a sucker when it comes to any animal in need. I have rescued many a turtle stuck in traffic over the years. I saved a cottontail that was hit by a car. My husband and I brought it to the emergency animal hospital. I also nursed a black squirrel back to health when we lived in Pennsylvania. When I was a child not a summer went by that I didn’t bring some animal home that was in need. The best one was a huge crow that was hit by a car. My parents didn’t let me keep him. For the life of me I can’t figure out why : )
