Treats: Enviro-Pouches For Pooches
***This treat isn’t taking entries anymore. Sorry people.***
I hear you people-y types like free things – so here goes nothing (though I highly recommend being a dog, we don’t pay for anything).
Bags can be bad, like when we are shoved in them. Bags can also be good, like when you clean up after us with them. But when Rocco’s mom over at Envirosax told us about their promotion with the ASPCA this month, I realized that bags can be really good.
Not just because they’re reusable, but because Envirosax is donating $1 for every pouch sold in November to the ASPCA to help pets who aren’t as lucky and Rocco and me.
So Rocco and his momma wanted to spread the word by letting me give a free pouch (that’s 5 whole bags!) to THREE different animal lovers out there, kinda like my parents did a few months ago on their blog. And since they’ve already got this giveaway thing down, I recruited them to help me with this next part…
- THE TREAT: A 5-bag pouch of Envirosax, any design from their graphic series (check them out, they’re super cool)
- TO ENTER: Leave me a comment on this post saying “TREAT ME” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: …I’d love to hear any good stories you have about rescuing your pet or otherwise doing something nice for us animals out there. Every little bit helps, so here’s your chance to brag.
- GIVEAWAY ENDS: Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: Three lucky humans (or dogs who like to grocery shop)
- ELIGIBILITY: Pouches can be shipped to the US and Canada
- DETAILS SCHMETAILS: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!
I follow the same giveaway policies as my parents, so get more info on their Giveaway FAQs page. Images courtesy of Envirosax.

TREAT ME!!
All but one of our four animals are rescues (1 Boston Terrier, 1 Devon Rex, 1 “Normal” Cat, and 1 Sphynx). Every time one of the pets’ birthdays come, instead of buying a present for them, we find an animal on Petfinder and donate in their name. Our Boston will be 12 on the 16th and, even though he has lost his hearing and is loosing his sight, he still enjoys a romp in the park more than yet-another-fuzzy-toy for his birthday.
TREAT ME… I have 2 dogs that I have rescued. Luka is a yellow Lab and was rescued in 2003 and Mackie is our St Bernard and was rescued in 2005. Mackie came from a VERY abusive home where she went through a lot of turmoil. She was emaciated and sick when we got her. She grew so fast that the owners never changed her collar and it became in bedded in her neck and had to be surgically removed. She was to say the least pitiful. It took her about a year to finally warm up to my husband. They do not call them gentle giants for no reason. When she is gone I will feel like I have lost a child. It will be one of the worst heartbreaks. She tolerates 2 children that run and jump on her and she acts like it is the best thing in the world. Enough rambling….I could go on and on forever about her.
Treat Me please!
We have the privilege of being proud parents of four rescued doggies and two kitties. It’s a bit of a zoo, but our toddler loves it and we wouldn’t have it any other way!
TREAT ME!
Well, I don’t have any super hero stories of animal rescue…but I DO have pets, and I DO take good care of them. In fact, our dog is not even aware she is not human I think!
TREAT ME
Hi Burger, our dog Weston is a big fan of yours. He thinks his mom would really really like these bags!
TREAT ME!
For our wedding, instead of favors, we made a donation to the local no-kill shelter in our guests’ names.
Treat me!
I love our rescue kitties! How can you go to a shelter and not fall in love with someone? I wouldn’t think of buying a kitten from a store.
Treat me!
We rescued Bailey (one of your semi-finalists) from a shelter just about three months ago and she is the sweetest, most loving dog. I don’t know how anyone would have given her up!
TREAT ME!!
I’ve always wanted a orange kitty, and one day someone dumped a box of kittens behind my husband’s work, they were so young we had to bottle feed him, but he’s the sweetest kitty ever!!
Treat Me.
When we were looking for a kitten, we went to a local rescue center and was took a pair of kittens that had to be taken together. Loki, the male kitten, was playful and at his happiest when he was the center of attention. His companion, Eris, had been abused and was nearly feral because of it. While the hubby and our kidlet focused their attentions on the oh-so-easy to love Loki, I focused my time and attention on the one who needed love the most.
It wasn’t easy but over the next month, I slowly but surely showed her that not all humans would hurt her. Now she has the proud, feline arrogance she was destined to have but despite her catly nature, she is now at her happiest when curled in my lap, purring contentedly as she dreams happy cat dreams.
Loki on the other hand, is a very confused little beast that is absolutely certain he is, in fact a dog. He fetches, rolls on his back demanding a belly scratch and has absoltely none of his sister’s feling dignity– much to the delight of his humans.
TREAT ME!!!
Hi Burger..
My name is Bailey, I am an 11 year young Golden Retreiver(and a big fan of your site). My parents (also big fans of you and your parents)rescued a kitten 4 years ago while they were taking the little masters trick or treating. None of the area homes claimed the kitten so they took her home with them. We already had a cat and of course myself…so my mom found a local rescue organization for the kitten and took her there the next day. We found out the next week that she went to a good home.
“TREAT ME”
Ok this ones for me, Sven. I actually LOVE being carted around in bags by my human. Usually I prefer coach, but these bags are so cool I’m making an exception! Besides my mom needs to stop getting those icky plastic bags from the grocery- they dont taste very good and I hear they’re bad for the environment.
Special shot out to Burger: whats up my bro! I’m looking forward to when I can submit to be one of your buddies. I hope you like football and margaritas! (My margarita has a lime AND it squeaks! I promise I’ll share) :)
TREAT ME! Last year I found a cardboard box of kittens in the rain, by the train-tracks at midnight. Needless to say I grabbed them and found them all homes!
TrEaT mE……..
We do not have any animals, but will one day and know already that they will come from a shelter or rescue, not a pet store.
TREAT ME
We got our dog Lux; an Australian Cattle dog 5 yrs ago, a close family member had passed away and no one could take him in so he was left at the SPCA. We had just bought our house and the following week we were moving in, knowing that he was 12 at the time, there was going to be very little chance that he was going to get adopted so we made the decision to take him in. I had never had a pet before and knew that it was going to be a challenge but he meant a lot to her and couldn’t risk him being put down.
He is now 17 and still going strong, I’ve had to learn a lot as a dog mommy in such a short amount of time but have never regretted the decision. He is so full of love and energy, I couldn’t imagine what life would have been like without him.
TREAT ME!
We first fostered a newfoundland pup a few years ago. She already had a family to adopt her but she had to wait 6 weeks in isolation to ensure that she wasn’t sick. She came from a puppy mill. All was good and she went to her new loving family. Then my husband and i decided to rescue our boxer. Somedays i wish he could spend the life in the collar of a more neglected dog so that he could appreciate how nice he has it. I mean, come on, 4 1 hour walks a day, playing with his other fur buddies everyday from the neighbourhood, and don’t get me started on his $200 doggy bed.
Treat me!
My husband and I adopted our cat, Piper, from a local cat rescue when she was only four months old. She was found abandoned, along with her mother and her little siblings, along the side of the road in a cardboard box. We are happy that she is a part of our family and we love her to pieces!
TREAT ME
My husband adopted our cat Louis before we started dating and before we got married we adopted our dog Mia. She is a medium size dog, so we are in the process of looking out for another smaller dog to adopt.
TREAT ME!
We love helping out friends and family by dogsitting. Recently when our best friends had a brand new baby, we took care of their first “Baby”, Sam, for more than a week! We pampered that dog and prepped him for his new little sister, baby Mary!
Treat me!
Our dog Simon (a daschund and black lab mix) came from the local small dog rescue operation, and he had recently been saved from a shelter where dogs are regularly bought to use in research testing. We’re so happy he made it to the rescue organization and then to our home!
TREAT ME! Hoping to rescue a puppy in March waiting for winter months to be over so we won’t have to start the training with the snow around Can’t wait my nephew Bones will be really happy to have a cousin :)
TREAT ME!
I adopted my bunny, Violet, from the House Rabbit Society. She’s a Netherland Dwarf and bascially just two pounds of fluffy cuteness.
TREAT ME!!!
Our miniature schnauzer, Tux is a pravo survivor and just turned 6 this past October! He’s the best, second to Burger of course.
TREAT ME
We rescued Emma from our local animal shelter. We were volunteering there, (walking the dogs), and so when she came in we had first dibs, and we are so happy we have her! Can’t imagine our home without her in it anymore!
TREAT ME :)
Not only is our Chihuahua pup pampered, but he’s an animal lover just like his mom and dad. On a walk one day, he spotted a parakeet that had gotten out of its home and took Robb right over to it.
We adopted our little guy from the Arlington Animal Welfare League and couldn’t have made a better decision. He’s such a sweet, smart, and funny dog!
Treat me!
I adopted my cat, Cosmo, from domestic animal control (aka “the pound”). When I saw her I knew I had to adopt her — turns out that she had been at the shelter the longest, and it seemed nobody wanted her. She’s the best cat (and friend) I’ve ever had. :)
TREAT ME!
Our dog Madison is a former pound puppy! She is a hound/lab mix and was about 3 months old when we got her. I remember she stuck her huge paws under the fence at the pound as if saying hello and my heart was stolen!
Treat Me! All the pets that have ever graced my life are rescues. My current two kitties are delightful. Found one in a parking lot when she was about 5 weeks old and the other is from a rescue that takes pets from kill shelters and finds them homes. I also visit freekibblekat.com each day to “donate” food for pets.
TREAT ME! (err… my mom. she does most of the shopping around here)
My sister and I were rescued from the humane society and ASPCA. When my mom and dad first brought me home, neither one of them had had a dog before, so they didn’t know what to do with me. I was a wreck – kennel cough, stinky fur, and, having just been neutered, my -ahem- boy parts were making a scene. So embarrassing for me… (and a little uncomfortable for them). After a quick bath (ugg, I hate baths), and some meds, all was well and now we’re like totally a pack. It’s awesome.
Treat me, please! :)
Both of our dogs are rescues. We rescued Ruby over 3 years ago – she was previously loved by a man who succumbed to cancer. We saw her via Petfinder through a local rescue and loved her instantly. She came to live with us and we can’t remember what life was like before her. She’s a true joy – so calm and loving. A true sign that she loves you is if she flops on her side with her paws up for a belly rub within seconds of meeting you. :) We also saw our pup, Riley on Petfinder almost 2 years ago. We started the initial adoption process with the application and sent it in. I took a pregnancy test a few days later (after feeling a bit “different”), found out it was positive and a half hour later, we were called by the rescue and asked if we wanted to come meet Riley. Of course we said YES! It was love at first sight again – and Ruby loved him too (as we took her to meet him). We took Riley home with Ruby and the two of them are the best compliments of each other. We’ve added a little brother to the mix for them – our son, Jack, who was born last November. He adores the “dohs” as he calls them and we couldn’t be happier. It’s an honor to have Ruby and Riley and Jack in our lives.
We Found our cat Emma when she was a tiny kitten in the parking lot at work. We thought she was a boy, and when we took her to the vet, she had a blockage in her intestines which turned out to be a huge wad of dental floss she must have found when digging through the community garbage before we rescued her. Long story short, when we went to pick her up they informed us that she was a girl, not a boy, and that they had given her an enema to remove the blockage. So enema turned into Emma and that’s how we got her name!
TREAT ME!
My mom used to be President of our local Animal Humane Society so we are big supporters at our house. All of our many animals have been rescues from one shelter or another. We always grew up with 4 dogs and 3 cats in the house and now I have a dog and 4 cats of my own – so when I say many, I mean MANY! Every last one has been sweet as could be and I wouldn’t get a pet anywhere else.
Treat Me!
I rescued my cat Lola from a shelter after she was abandoned by an owner. It took her a few years to really come out of her shell but she’s lovely. I’m working on my boyfriends family right now to adopt a rescue dog rather go through a breeder, and have been sending them cute pics of dogs all over VA and MD to steer them in the right direction.
Lastly, I helped write (and pass) the law for my boss that makes dog fighting a federal felony, that should earn me some barks, right?
Treat Me!
Every so often I make homemade doggie biscuits for my dog, Harry. I package up a few for all our friends with dogs and attach a tag “from Harry.”

Treat meeee!!
We became involved with a fostering organization and we began fostering dogs prior to their adoptions. They were rescued from puppy mills as well as high-kill shelters. Two of the dogs who came without brothers and sisters we ended up adopting. Fostering the dogs is an incredibly rewarding experience, it’s so wonderful to have little sweet puppies to play with and teach and then watch them go home with a family for life. :)
