Treats: Enviro-Pouches For Pooches

***This treat isn’t taking entries anymore. Sorry people.***

I hear you people-y types like free things – so here goes nothing (though I highly recommend being a dog, we don’t pay for anything).

Bags can be bad, like when we are shoved in them. Bags can also be good, like when you clean up after us with them. But when Rocco’s mom over at Envirosax told us about their promotion with the ASPCA this month, I realized that bags can be really good.

Not just because they’re reusable, but because Envirosax is donating $1 for every pouch sold in November to the ASPCA to help pets who aren’t as lucky and Rocco and me.

So Rocco and his momma wanted to spread the word by letting me give a free pouch (that’s 5 whole bags!) to THREE different animal lovers out there, kinda like my parents did a few months ago on their blog. And since they’ve already got this giveaway thing down, I recruited them to help me with this next part…

I follow the same giveaway policies as my parents, so get more info on their Giveaway FAQs page. Images courtesy of Envirosax.

“TREAT ME!” :)

TREAT ME!

Treat me!

We’ve rescued all of our animals from local shelters, organizations and the Humane Society. Many cats, a dog and even two horses that were going to be “put down”. Our latest rescue was a wild kitten resuce when we found a dead momma cat that led us to find five little kittens, still so young they were still blind!

TREAT ME!

We rescued our pup from a rescue group when she was 4 weeks old (she could barely walk). They were going to have to put the puppies to sleep because they were too young for vaccinations. The other puppies in her litter ended up with parvo (so so sad) but she is now a healthy, crazy, year old dog!

TREAT ME!

TREAT ME! We have had three dogs join our family from the Richmond SPCA, and we are now in Boston with Celeste, the remainder of our brood. Love, love, love to all the people who make so we all can adopt such love and magic into our lives!

TREAT ME

I used to volunteer at the local humane society as a “foster family” for cats/dogs. That’s how I ended up with my kitty! After bottle-feeding her from birth, I fell in love and couldn’t give her back even after the foster period ended!

TREAT ME!

Well, I’m finishing up my PhD in animal behavior, and I’m also teaching college classes in animal behavior now, so I’m trying to spread my love of animals to my students. I believe that knowledge is a powerful tool for helping animals.

Treat me!

Well, we foster retired racing greyhounds…they are so thankful for a comfortable home and learn quickly to enjoy retirement!

Treat Me!

We rescued our two cats from the Humane Shelter a while back. I would love to rescue a dog too, but it might have to wait until the summer.

TrEaT Me!
thanks for the giveaway Burger! We have rescued many creatures from the pound and hope to rescue many more!

TREAT ME!
My first (and only) kitty was a rescued stray. Now we’re apartment dwellers, so we found her a good home with a friend who had two other cats. I miss having animals in my life!

TREAT ME

Okay I never win these things but I had to tell my I saved a dog story. While heading down the road last week I saw something small coming towards me and thought it looked a lot like the walk of a Westie, I have a beloved Westie I know their walk. I got closer with the van and realized it was a White Schnauzer. I opened my door said hello and asked if he would like a ride. He hoped in at my feet and I pulled over to call the number on his tag. His name was Marbles and he was a happy dog not to have to walk the rest of the way home. I dropped him off at his owners house and she asked how I got him in, I said I asked him if he wanted a ride, I guess he did. Come to find out he is not terribly friendly with strangers, guess he knew a good one when he saw it!! Marbles is safe at home with his family.

TREAT ME!
We rescued Molly from a high-kill shelter in Kentucky. She had a broken leg and was a week away from being put down. We can’t imagine our life without her now!!!

TREAT ME!! We “rescued” our Golden Lab mix from a family that could no longer care for him. He was so frightened that no one could even watch him eat. Now he loves to be around people, especially our family. He trusts us to care for him and we are grateful for his love and protection!

“TREAT ME”

My husband and I rescued a border collie/australian shepherd mix. She had been at the pound for a couple months and they were about to have to euthanize her. We just happened to see her little “mugshot” in the Sunday paper (which we NEVER read but happened to that day). We called that Monday and the rest is history! We love our sweet Jozie.

TREAT ME!

I got my first cat completely unexpectedly. My friend and I were walking down the road and a lady stopped and asked us if we wanted a kitten. She said he was a stray that she found under some bushes and she was trying to find good homes for him and the rest of the litter. We fell in love with him right away and I’ve had him ever since. My next pet (whenever that might be) will definitely be a rescue.

TREAT ME!!!

When we adopted our little Bella she had been so neglected that fleas had taken over her teeny tiny body which caused her to be full of worms as well. We took care of it right away and she has never had a flea on her body since! We hope to adopt another dog soon!

Thanks Burger for the great giveaway and for promoting such great causes! :)

Treat Me!
We adopted Ty from the Humane Society last February. He is a lab mix with a very unique look. We love hearing everyone tell us what’s in the “mix.” Is it greyhound, spaniel, wolfhound? If only he could tell us!

Treat Me!

We rescued our Shar Pei/Lab mix from a local shelter. They rescued him from another shelter that was going to put him down. It was love at first sight! It’s been the best decision our family has made and my 3 kids adore him!

Treat me.

We just spent a whole day last week looking for our neighbors lost cat!

Treat me! I need to shop in style.

TREAT ME!

When I was growing up I convinced my parents to let me take in a stray cat – she lived with us for 5 years before being hit by a car but I know her short life was better with us than on the streets.

Treat me!

I can’t wait to rescue a puppy…

TREAT ME!

We got the T-dog (Toby) from the British Columbia, Canada SPCA in June 2008 and we couldn’t have asked for a better dog. He’s more like our BFF. LOVES us. Is always up for a walk, a run and bike ride in the same day! And to think – we almost didn’t go and see him b/c he had a bad picture posted on their website. I don’t even want to go there.

We *heart* T-dog and the SPCAs everywhere doing the great work they do.

TREAT ME!!!

Since I don’t have luck on your parents’ blog, Burger, maybe I’ll have more luck on yours? I don’t have a dog right now, :(, but we desperately want one. Unfortunately, we’re just not home enough to care for one. But – I have taken all the training and orientation at the PAWS shelter here in Chicago so that I can take some dogs for walks and help care for some pups in need on occasion to get my doggie fix!

TREAT ME

Treat me!

We have four cats. I literally took our first cat in off the street—a little boy came to our door holding a kitten the day after we moved to TX from OH and asked if it was mine. When I said no he asked if I wanted it and I took him in and named him Mulder. We adopted the next two cats (Scully and Piper) from the local shelter, and the fourth from a friend whose cat had kittens. Love them kitties!

TREAT ME

I just volunteer for the animal shelter…but that’s a lot!

TREAT ME…. We got both of our dogs from the pound, which my husband says is a place where I am not allowed to go because I always come home with another animal or I’ve called and talked another person into adopting an animal.

Treat Me!

I’ve had cats and dogs my whole life (mostly cats) and my family has always gotten our animals through rescues.

TREAT ME!

I love pet rescue stories. Here’s one of mine.

I fostered cats for man years. My first foster cat, Lucy, came to me in May of 1999. She was two days away from being euthanized at a county shelter. On the day she was to have been euthanized, she gave birth to four kittens. I ended up finding a home for one and kept Lucy and the other three kittens: Patrick, Sampson and Molly.

Molly died two years ago from respiratory failure and Lucy developed liver failure this summer and I had her put to sleep this August. I still have Lucy’s sons.

Because I loved seeing Lucy raise her babies, I opened my home to other foster mothers and foster kittens. I’ve recently taken a break from it, but over the years I’ve fostered over 100 kittens and mother cats, all of who went on to find forever homes through the local humane society.

TREAT ME!

I help support local animal shelters by going to as many fund raisers as possible :o)

Treat Me!
We got our wonderful dog, Ellie, at an animal shelter. She is the sweetest, most hilarious dog ever. She keeps us entertained, probably too entertained.

TREAT ME!
TREAT ME!
TREAT ME BURGER!! :)

Treat me!

I’m currently without a pet, but next spring/summer I plan to foster an adult cat. Our local humane society fosters out adult cats during peak kitten season when adult cats are less likely to be adopted.

Treat me!
We adopted our dog from a shelter and she spent 14 wonderful years with our family. Our two cats (adorable brothers) are also rescues.

Treat Me!

Treat me!!

We rescued our fav. little man Snoop from a shelter in Indiana… he’s a keeper

TREAT ME!

I am currently owned by my second and third resuces, Maverick (almost 7) and Charlee (almost 4). Maverick is a pointer/hound mix who is prone to howling along with fire trucks and Charlee is a pitt/hound mix who is known for digging holes in the backyard in an attempt to rid the world of moles. Maverick’s full name is Lt. Pete Mitchell – he just goes by his call sign. Ditto for Astrophysicist Charlotte Blackwood. :-) My first rescue, Comet, was adopted when I was 13 and volunteering at a vet’s office. The sheriff had rescued Comet from a crack house and he was malnourished and in sad shape. He rebounded in a huge way and lived with me for 10 great years. RIP Comet! Long live Mav and Charlee.

TREAT ME!

Our cat is a rescued stray, right out of our own neighborhood…he used to watch in our full view door…we eventually got him to trust us and took him in…he is FIV +, but has been doing great, and has been a part of family since.

TREAT ME!

We adopted our red-nose pitbull, Joey, after he LITERALLY walked into our house. We kept the door open a lot one summer and he wandered in. He was severely underweight and had scars and scabs all over his neck and belly. He’s the sweetest dog. He’ll knock crouched people over and then proceed to lick their faces, haha.

Our other dog, Chandler, was a foster dog, and we have 5 aquatic turtles that we rescued. My family adopted 3 rescued iguanas when I was younger, too.

TREAT ME!

I rescued Bailey from a shelter in a small coastal town 2.5 hours from my house in Portland, Oregon. I saw her on the website “petfinder” and figured this pint-sized 3 month old Lhasa-poo would be snatched up in no time. Well…as the days went by and she was still up for adoption, I knew she was waiting for me! So I made the drive and got her. The only problem – Bailey gets car sick so let’s just say we had fun on the way back! No matter, I love my doggie!

Treat Me!

Rescuing our cat Skittles from a local shelter was one of the best decisions my partner and I have ever made! Our little lap-warming, bug-catching, better-than-TV-entertaining cat will be getting a playmate soon when we adopt a second rescue cat.

“TREAT ME”

We got our little girl ( I guess 80 pounds isn’t so little), Cosmo (Olde English Bulldogge)three years ago. When we got her, she was very sick. In fact, two days after getting her, we had to take her to the vet to treat her for pneumonia. The previous owners said she had a “flu” and were giving her all these medicines that were not correct. The vet said if we had not gotten her, there is no way she would have lived. I think it is great when people can rescue animals from other places. I am so happy we found Cosmo, our lives would not be the same without her.

TREAT ME!

If only all animals and humans had the kind of love we shower on our critters. Tender words, praise, hugs, toys, entertainment, affection. Oh, let’s face it, our pets are just IRRESISTIBLE. Or so I tell my two cats every day. (and they are!)

TREAT ME!

TREAT ME
Our whole family love’s following the adventures of Burger! He’s hilarious!

TREAT ME

Lucy, my rescue dog, was found running on the side of the road and came to me through the Bartow County Humane society at an adoption event they had here in Atlanta. My little “probably a beagle, 14-pound puppy” grew into a 62 pound, “not a beagle, Georgia-porch-dawg” who currently has commandeered the warm spot on my bed and is snoring away. Oh, and she wants you to know she is mad at me for forgetting to enter her in Burger’s contest. Even though she is 8 and, well, not petite, she thinks Burger is adorable.
