Treats: Enviro-Pouches For Pooches

***This treat isn’t taking entries anymore. Sorry people.***

I hear you people-y types like free things – so here goes nothing (though I highly recommend being a dog, we don’t pay for anything).

Bags can be bad, like when we are shoved in them. Bags can also be good, like when you clean up after us with them. But when Rocco’s mom over at Envirosax told us about their promotion with the ASPCA this month, I realized that bags can be really good.

Not just because they’re reusable, but because Envirosax is donating $1 for every pouch sold in November to the ASPCA to help pets who aren’t as lucky and Rocco and me.

So Rocco and his momma wanted to spread the word by letting me give a free pouch (that’s 5 whole bags!) to THREE different animal lovers out there, kinda like my parents did a few months ago on their blog. And since they’ve already got this giveaway thing down, I recruited them to help me with this next part…

I follow the same giveaway policies as my parents, so get more info on their Giveaway FAQs page. Images courtesy of Envirosax.

Treat me

All of my pets have been adopted from shelters. Rescuing an animal in need always seemed like the best way to go.

TREAT ME!

My husband and I foster cats for our local animal shelter. We have adopted two, Pork-ie L (she looks a pork loin with legs) and Bubba, and currently are housing three more nine week old kittens: Roscoe Jenkins, Miss Kitty, and Chester Cheeto! We love being foster parents, I wish more people would get involved and adopt!

TREAT ME!

My husband and I just moved out of our “no pets allowed” apartment and into our first home and we’re on the prowl for a furry friend! Right after we closed on our house it was a serious toss-up: visit our new home or go to the animal shelter to try to find a dog?!

TREAT ME!
Tipper, our wonderful grumpy old man of a dog would love to have envirosacks for us to tote his personal effects around in! When I first rescued him, he was five years old, and wouldn’t even look a human in they eye. Now he’s bossing his way through life, giving hugs and kisses, and snoring away while sleeping the sleep of a safe, happy pooch.

Treat me!

My cat, Lucas, needed a home after his new owner received surprise orders to return to Iraq. Since he’d be gone 18 months, he decided to place the cat if he could, rather than arrange for care. Luckily he did, because I’ve been spoiling Lucas since!

Treat me!

Our “baby puppy” (she’s actually 5) Tippy is a rescued pit bull from our local SPCA. She was found wandering the streets of West Chester, PA, as a six-week old puppy after most likely escaping from a backyard breeder. She was so malnourished that her front paws were deformed and she was walking on her hinges. When the SPCA took her in and put her paws in casts, it looked like she was walking on her tippy-toes, hence her name. She’s such a sweet, lovable dog, and we do our best to make sure that everyone she meets knows that she is, in fact, a pit bull so that the pit bull stigma is erased!

TREAT ME!

We don’t have any pets of our own but my in-laws do and I love spoiling their standard poodle by taking her on hikes. And my parents have parakeets and I like spoiling them by buying them yummy treats.

Treat me! My girl is a rescued greyhound and says she was born to be a family dog, and doesn’t miss running one bit!

TREAT ME! My all time favorite pet store is the time I heard rustling in the living room. I cautiously went in there (I was home alone and had watched too many true crime shows). When I flipped on the light, I found our dog Lady (min Schnauzer) with her head caught in a Ritz cracker box! Someone has left the pantry door opened and she helped herself. She had a grand ole feast until she couldn’t get the box back off her head! It was hilarious.

TREAT ME! I rescued my doggie (mutt) Axel from our local Humane Society…his story was one that is all too famaliar…dumped on a country road with his baby brothers, left to die, tick and flea ridden and hungry. But now he lives his posh life with his sister Riley (Golden) and has all the food and treats he could ask for!

Treat me!
We “rescued” our pug Dublin from a family who were told their two pugs COULDNT have puppies. And yet, here came Dublin! The owner had to pull poor Dubby out of the mommy pug, because she wasn’t supposed to be have babies!
Luckily he was A-Okay, and we were able to welcome him into our family!

Treat Me!

I rescued my doggie from a local shelter. She is the best dog ever! :)

TREAT ME! I got my baby dog at the anminal shelter seven years ago. We just celbrated our seventh dogiversary a couple of weeks ago! She is awesome!!

TREAT ME!
I rescued both my pooches from the Human Society. One was a stray and the other was an owner surrender. They both have health problems, but we didn’t care. I love ‘em to death!

Treat Me!

When my wife and I decided to get another dog we will be going to the shelter/humane society!

TREAT ME! My husband and I rescued 2 rabbits through Petfinder.com (a fantastic website!). We’re not sure how they came to be abandoned, but we’re proud that we supported our local humane shelter and rabbit rescue by adopting them instead of buying rabbits in a pet store. Most people don’t know that rabbits are the third most abandoned pet, so there are plenty of perfectly good ones out there that need to be rescued!

TREAT ME

I have a little white-ish chihuahua who looks a lot like Burger, except a lot chubbier (he insists he’s just big-boned). I adopted him 8 years ago and now he’s the boss of me. :)

Treat me! (please!)

When my husband and I lived in Mississippi, I worked at Mississippi State University’s Veterinary School in research. The vet students there founded a wonderful program called Homeward Bound that rescued dogs from the seriously overcrowded shelters in the area (none of the shelters are no kill and hundreds of animals are put to sleep each week, placed them with foster homes, provided them with medication and spay/neuter surgeries, and every few months, would drive them to the NE states to be placed in loving homes there, where animal overpopulation is not as big of a problem. My husband and I were fortunate enough to foster 3 wonderful doggies that we wished we could have kept as part of our family. All three are now in wonderful homes and our lives are better because of the time we had with them. If anyone is curious about the program, google MSU Homeward Bound. :)

TREAT ME!

All of our dogs have been “rescued.” We have never bought a pet from a pet store. We currently have 2 dogs! Love them to death!

TREAT ME!

We rescued our dog through a no-kill animal shelter in Indianapolis. He was supposed to be a beagle/jack russell mix (we were told he’d weigh 20-25 lbs at maturity), but our little 12 lb bundle of joy ended up growing into a 75 lb lap dog. :)

Treat Me!
I found my cat in my neighbors tree and she hasn’t left
me alone since!
We could not find her owners, so I took her in and fed
her what eventually became her name: Tuna.

Treat Me!

Our first cat is a stray found by a neighbor (whose own children were allergic), and our second cat literally caught us–she reached out her paw and tagged my daughter as we walked through a shelter.

Treat me !

Treat me ! Please !

TREAT ME!

Amos Moses, who is…you know…the love of my life (but don’t tell my husband!) is a rescue mutt. He didn’t come from the ASPCA but a local foster care organization that scooped him and his siblings out of a high kill shelter. The litter was found without a mom or dad so we have no clue as to what he is (besides his german shepard markings, but they don’t match his plume of a tail), except that he is the biggest cuddle bug and was made just for our family!

TREAT ME!!!

We didn’t actually “rescue” our Chihuahua Paco…but we love him like he is our child.

TREAT ME!

TREAT ME…please!

TREAT ME!

My brother has the most amazingly sweet pitbull named Max that he rescued as a puppy. Before he got him, I was definitely a “hater” when it came to that breed of dog. However, he is one of the sweetest, most docile dogs I have ever encountered. That’s why I make sure I donate time and $$ to my cousin’s dog rescue organization. They take strays and other dogs who have been subjected to dog fighting and rehabilitate them. It’s an amazing cause and I’m glad to be a part of it.

TREAT ME

I volunteer for the local SPCA to help animals in need, and I make sure my own pup has enough lovin’ as well. I love animals, so there’s plenty of love to go around :)

Treat me!
Hubby and I adopted our two cats from a local animal rescue. They’re both older cats with rough histories (one was abused, the other found nearly starved to death in a snowbank). But they’ve turned out to be the sweetest cats who want nothing more than a little love, food and a warm place to sleep. I like to think that we’re helping make up for the harm they suffered early on, by babying them a little now.

TREAT ME!!

We rescued our pooch from a breeder who never sold him as a puppy and just kept him in a dog run. He never had much human contact until we got him when he was over a year old, so he was pretty unsure of our world and would hide in closets. 7 years later, he’s loving life and we treat him like he’s our first born!

TREAT ME!

I rescued my cat not once but twice out of a live trap.

TREAT ME…while recovering from mouth surgery, i woke one morning to find a crane fishing in our koi pond. i rang my bell (without being able to shout, it was the only way for me to get attention in my bedroom) to wake my mom and told her “the ish! sabe the ish!” while gesturing out the window. She was able to run out side in time to save one of our fish from being carried off by the 3ft crane.

TREAT ME!

TREAT ME!

TREAT ME!!!

treat me! I have a rescued great dane who is the best!

TREAT ME

We rescued our cat, Bindhi, on our 1 year anniversary as our gift to eachother. The poor baby had parasites and was stuck in a cage right next to the room with all the dogs at the animal shelter. The barking was deafening. She tried to rub her head on us from inside the cage, which got my husbands attention. When we got her out of the cage, she melted like butter in our arms. She is the sweetest little addition to our family!

“TREAT ME”

About two months ago, I found a stray dog outside of my office. It gets hot in Alabama, so I brought him inside, gave him some water, and then designed some posters to put up in the neighborhood saying we had found the dog. No one responded, so one of my coworkers adopted him!

treat me!!

Treat Me!!
We got our 8 year old rat terrier last year from a shelter. She was in rough shape- our humane society got her from a puppy mill where she was used for breeding :( She has come a long way and I wouldn’t trade her for the world!

TREAT ME!! I was already planning on purchasing these for Chistmas presents!

TREAT ME

My two cats came from the Parkersburg, WV shelter the same week a puppy farm in the area was broken up and all the dogs, over 1000, had to be processed and then shipped out to other area shelters for adoption. All were pure bread and as far as I know all found homes. My boys had to have all their shots repeated because the shelter lost their paperwork in all the confusion, but I know they are happy to have a loving home and glad that all the dogs found good homes also, including cousin Sophie, a yorkie.

Treat me! We rescued two wonderful kitties 5 years ago. One was scheduled to be put down because she’d been at the shelter so long. She is so sweet and loving (and an attention hog) that I can’t imagine life without her.

TREAT ME

TREAT ME!! (please!! I’ll do a trick!)

I have a dog and a cat. My boyfriend insisted we get an 8 week old puppy for our first dog so we could raise her from scrach, and I wanted a Puggle, so after looking for a year, we could not find one in a rescue. But our next will be a rescue, you can count on that!

Our cat, Mr. Face, wandered into our lives a few years ago on one of the few snowy nights Georgia ever sees. A man was walking and a cat was following him, and he said, “I have to get rid of this cat tonight or else my dog will kill him, they have been fighting non stop and the dog keeps getting him at the throat.” So we took him in, hoping to save the kitty’s life. We still have our ornery cat Mr. Face, and he is still big, black, and grumpy after all these years :D

Treat me!!

Walking my puppy each nite is a favorite evening ritual for both of us.
