Sad. But hopeful.
I just heard the saddest news. A no-kill shelter in Texas caught on fire last Saturday and over 100 dogs and cats died. I’m beside myself with grief. Here’s an article about it. Sniffle.
But there is something we can do. Spread the word that the Centex Humane Society needs help. Here’s what they’re requesting:
- Volunteers in Killeen, Texas who can come lend a hand as they clean things out
- Cleaning supplies like garbage bags, tarps, paper towels, HE detergent, etc
- Gift cards to Lowe’s, Home Depot, Pet Smart, Petco, Office Max, Office Depot, Staples
- Lunch and refreshments for the volunteers
- People to help with repainting on the week of the 8th
- Materials for a sprinkler system and a fire alarm that covers the whole building and connects to 911
And of course you can provide all those things by making a donation (as little as $5!) right here and if you would like to send them a check you can make it out to “The Centex Humane Society” and send it here: Centex Humane Society, 5501 Clear Creek Rd., Killeen, TX 76549. They’re also hosting some pretty great fundraisers which you can read more about right here. Let’s save the pooches! Ok, and the kitty cats too.
Update: Wahooo! I just learned that my post helped them raise $5000 to rebuild their shelter! Here’s a link all about it. So glad you guys are helping me spread the word and save pets everywhere!
